I am serious about being curious!

I received my Bachelor of Music (2015, graduated cum laude), Master of Music (2018; thesis: "A Cognitive Model of Sight-Reading as the Eye-Ear-Hand Collaborative Processes"), and Doctor of Musical Arts (2024, graduated first in class; dissertation: "Cognitive Strategies of Sight-Reading in Piano Performance: Adapting the Eye–Hand Span") degrees in Musicology from Seoul National University. Driven by a deep passion for studying the musical mind and behavior of humans through a scientific lens, I am currently pursuing my second doctoral degree (but first Ph.D.) at Indiana University Bloomington in the Cognitive Science Program under the supervision of Professor Andrew Goldman at the Music and Mind Lab.

As a researcher, I am broadly interested in the cognitive and neural foundations of music performance—how musicians perceive, plan, and execute complex actions in real time. Within this broad area, I find the reading of music especially compelling, as it raises questions about how we come to process visual symbols, how such learning bridges perception and action, and what distinguishes expertise across different domains.

Beyond research, I am also a pianist. I trained as a performer throughout my teenage years in Korea and still find joy in playing whenever I can. My favorite composers include Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel. As an aspiring musico-scientist, I strive to bring together the humanities, arts, and sciences!
